Trent Herbst is a 4th grade teacher in Ketchum, Idaho. He has taught elementary students for 15 years in Argentina, Dominican Republic, Germany, Switzerland, Alaska, and currently in Idaho.
While teaching in Europe, his students introduced him to the Iditarod as a class project. 4 years later, Trent and his family moved to Michigan and then onto Alaska to learn how to run sled dogs. He ran his first race in 2006 and is currently signed up for his 4th race in 2010.
Trent and his wife Candida have a 7 year old daughter Kali and live in Triumph, Idaho where they help train yearlings for Ed and Tasha Stielstra’s Nature's kennel. This is a family operation with all 3 members actively taking part in all aspects of dog care.
He does not compete to win in the Iditarod, merely to enjoy the dogs and the sport. Teaching is a huge part of Trent’s life and he incorporates this unique sport into his classroom. He is proud to be a part of the Nature's kennel team and is looking forward to seeing his young dogs compete on Ed’s team.
